Pregnancy & Postpartum Care

Natural Pregnancy Care

Health is of the utmost importance when preparing for and during pregnancy. We offer a holistic, safe, and effective program to ensure that you’re providing the best for you and your baby right from the start.

1st Trimester

Weekly treatments support this delicate stage of development to improve energy and alleviate symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

2nd Trimester

Monthly, or as needed, treatments during this time aid in enjoying a pain and concern-free pregnancy.

3rd Trimester

Pre-birth treatments towards the end of pregnancy gradually prepare the body for labor. This is the perfect time to reduce stress and enhance stamina for labor. Treatments focus on ripening the cervix and positioning the baby optimally for labor.

Common pregnancy concerns we treat:

  • Nausea & Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Headaches
  • Allergies
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Itching
  • Heartburn
  • Edema
  • Hypertension

Labor Preparation

At Sage we find that the best results come when acupuncture is used as a pre-birth treatment, gradually preparing the body for labor with one treatment a week starting at 36-37 weeks gestation. Treatments are tailored to each individual woman’s constitution and pregnancy history, with a focus on gently supporting labor to unfold naturally.

An observational study (Betts and Lenox 2004) of 169 women who utilized pre-birth acupuncture before delivery found:

  • 35% reduction in the number of inductions (for women having their first baby this was a 43% reduction) and a
  • 31% reduction in the epidural rate

When pre-birth acupuncture was utilized before delivery with a midwife, there was a

  • 32% reduction in emergency caesarean delivery and a
  • 9% increase in normal vaginal births

Postpartum Support

Acupuncture is one of the best ways to support recovery after childbirth and set you on the path towards long-term health. When you take care of yourself you have the resources to take care of your baby. It’s common for new mothers to be exhausted which can lead to depression, brain fog, and irritability. The first few months after birth are essential for regaining strength, balancing hormones, elevating mood, and addressing low milk supply.

To optimally transition into motherhood we recommend treatments once a week starting 2 weeks postpartum for a total of 1 month and can help with:

  • An efficient recovery
  • Building blood and energy
  • Low milk production
  • Perineum and post-birth pains
  • C-Section incision recovery
  • Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Edema, Swelling
  • Constipation
  • Prolapse
  • UTIs
